According to the Carer Association, there are currently about 7 million caregivers in Italy. These include family members, relatives, and professional caregivers, 60% of whom are women. Caring for a dependent person is a full-time job and responsibility that can negatively impact one’s studies, work, and personal life. The burden of caring for tomorrow’s elderly will increasingly fall on just a few people, if not a single individual.

This is why it is important to design a future that allows the population over 65 to remain self-sufficient for as long as possible and provides their caregivers with tools to help them approach caregiving with greater peace of mind.

A group of students from the Product Design program at the European Institute of Design in Rome interviewed independent and dependent seniors, as well as their caregivers, to understand the most common daily challenges. Applying design methodology, they sought to find solutions.

Seven products were developed to address these challenges, and they will be previewed at Exposanità.
